Overview

The wild coastal frontiers of San Pedrillo and the biological heart of Sirena serve as the stage for this 2-day, 1-night immersive jungle expedition.

Operated by Top Trails Corcovado, this "Great Choice" journey transitions from the primary rainforest trails of the Osa Peninsula to an exclusive overnight stay in a secluded jungle shelter located between San Pedrillo and Los Planes.

You move from the coastal biodiversity of the ranger stations to "off-the-beaten-path" trails where few travelers tread.

Because this experience offers a non-traditional route through thick, untamed jungle and is limited to a small group of 8 participants, you should book your Sirena and San Pedrillo 2-day tour early to secure your 2026 wilderness permit.

Itinerary

  1. The adventure begins at 5:50 AM at the main beach of Bahia Drake (Playa Colorada). You’ll be greeted by a member of the Top Trails team for a boat transit to the park. The morning is spent exploring the Sirena Station, famous for its high concentration of wildlife like tapirs and monkeys. After a 6-hour trek and a provided lunch, the journey continues toward the San Pedrillo sector. The day concludes at a cozy jungle shelter, nestled in the thick vegetation between San Pedrillo and Los Planes, where you’ll enjoy a communal dinner surrounded by the sounds of the night forest.
  2. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on a 10 km hike back toward Drake Bay. This is a "non-traditional" route designed to make you feel completely immersed in the raw jungle, away from the typical tourist paths. You’ll trek through deep primary forest to the Los Planes sector. After a final lunch, a 4x4 vehicle will pick you up to transport you back to the center of Drake Bay, arriving around 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM.

Expect a raw, adventurous, and physically demanding experience. This tour transitions from established park trails to rugged, less-frequented jungle terrain. The environment is one of total isolation; our agency notes that you will truly feel "lost in the middle of nowhere" in the best way possible. While the shelter is cozy, it is a rustic immersion in the heart of nature. This tour is not recommended for travelers with back problems and requires a moderate to high physical fitness level to manage the 10 km trek on Day 2.

Sirena & San Pedrillo Insider Secrets

  • Our agency prides itself on avoiding the crowded paths. Our travelers have reported that the trek on Day 2 is where they truly felt the magic of the Osa, seeing parts of the jungle that standard day-trippers never reach.

  • Us at the agency recommend high-quality, broken-in hiking boots for this specific itinerary. Our clients find that because we utilize "no traditional trails," the ground can be uneven and muddy; our guide stresses that proper ankle support is your best friend on the 10 km hike.

  • If you are a wildlife lover, our agency recommends keeping your camera easily accessible on the 4x4 ride back. Our travelers often spot raptors or sloths in the trees lining the road to Los Planes, providing a vertical finale to the trip.

  • Us at the agency want to emphasize that our shelter is a unique sanctuary. Our travelers often tell us that falling asleep to the "vertical wall of sound" from the jungle insects and frogs was the highlight of their 2026 Costa Rican adventure.

Best Time to Visit

Wildlife sightings and trail conditions vary with the tropical seasons of the Osa.

Season Months The Experience The Trade-off
Peak Dry Season Jan – April Best conditions for the "no-trail" trek; lower humidity. The most popular time; our agency suggests booking 3-4 months in advance.
Lush Green Season May – Aug The jungle is at its thickest and most vibrant; waterfalls are at full power. Higher chance of rain; our travelers recommend bringing extra dry bags for clothes.
Wildlife Transit Sept – Nov Great for spotting migratory birds and forest floor amphibians. More mud on the 10 km trek; our guide ensures a safe but rugged experience.

Recommended Start Point: 5:50 AM at Playa Colorada. Arriving early ensures a smooth boarding process for the boat transit to the first station.
